Shasha Khan, 38, is married and lives in Selhurst. He is a politics and economics graduate who has lived in north Croydon for 28 years. He is a director of his family's business and also a youth worker and mentor for Croydon Young People's Project. Khan co-founded both Friends of Thornton Heath Recreation Ground and Croydon Save Our Schools. He also sits on Bensham Manor's Safer Neighbourhood Team ward panel and its community association. In May 2009 he broke the story about Croydon council's plans to build an incinerator part-funded by government PFI credits - on the borders of the borough.
