Following a long-term interest in justice issues, Martin Deane first stood for Hull North in 2005. He has lived in Hull for 20 years and works as a supply teacher across the city. Deane is chair of Hull and East Riding Green Party, chair of trustees of CHEF, the City of Hull and Humber Environment Forum, secretary of Hull Stop the War coalition and treasurer of the Hull Palestine Solidarity Campaign. He has walked 70 miles of the Great Wall of China, plays bass in a Hull band called KNU and has a master's in counselling from Hull University
