Peter Allen is 50 and has lived in Glossop, in the High Peak, for 22 years. He works in Manchester as an advice worker, and is a member of UNISON. He has been politically active all his adult life and is particularly interested in building unity on the Left. To this end, he has been centrally involved in The Convention of the Left initiative. In Glossop, he has been involved in an active anti-war group and helped establish the campaign to re-open the Woodhead Tunnel for rail use. He lives with his wife and their six daughters.
