Steve Barnard lives in Sheffield with his wife and two children, not far from where he grew up in Sheffield Hallam. He is a former city councillor and works in community development for High Green Development Trust and the Northern Refugee Centre. He is a director of two social enterprises, Norfolk Park Catering and ACN Independence and Leisure, which provides holiday accommodation for families with disabled members.

Steve left Labour and joined the Greens because of the Government's failure to tackle inequality.

He will be fighting Sheffield Hallam's incumbent MP Nick Clegg on the basis of the stark contrast between the Lib-Dems/ actions and words on issues such as climate change and transport.
