Wendy Miller is 52 and is currently studying for a PhD carrying out research into local food initiatives, and is particularly active in local campaigns in Plymouth to protect urban green spaces. Previously she was an editor and administrator in a number of universities, and for a national charity that promoted holistic approaches to health. She has a BSc in environmental science and an MSc in science and technology policy and has been involved in a range of community and environmental groups. This included a spell for more than 10 years as secretary of a housing co-operative in London.
